Erewash residents are being urged to walk for sport by signing up for a charity Walking Football Tournament at Long Eaton United FC’s Grange Park ground on Friday 8 April.

The Mayor of Erewash, Councillor Donna Briggs, is hosting the fundraising event, which will kick off at 6.30pm. All money raised will go to the Mayor’s chosen charities, Treetops Hospice, the Canaan Trust and the Long Eaton and District Talking Newspaper for the Blind.

There is still time for teams to sign up for the family fun event. Teams should be made up of six people of all abilities plus substitute players, with competition entry costing £10 per player.

It’s hoped residents will also support the event by going along to cheer on the charity-minded teams. Admission will be £5 per spectator or £10 for a family.

Councillor Donna Briggs says the event will be a sporting highlight:

“Do sign up or come along for a family-friendly evening when we can celebrate being outdoors and enjoy a sport that is fantastic for people of all ages and abilities. Decide on your favourites and cheer them on!”

Walking football is aimed at all members of the community, regardless of age, gender, mobility or disability or those who are simply less active than they used to be.
