Planning Regeneration Policy

We are responsible for the preparation and implementation of the Borough’s Local Plan.  It provides a clear framework enabling the Council to plan for where, how much and what type of development occurs around Erewash over a long-term period.

To assist in this, the Section prepares a number of plans, strategies and oversees a wide evidence base which allows us to consider whether planning proposals (as set out within planning applications) should be approved.

Guided by the national planning system, our work plays an important role in securing improved environmental, social and economic conditions across Erewash.  Local Plan policies encourage the sustainability of new development, ensuring it make a positive contribution to wherever in the Borough proposals are located.

As these pages suggest, the responsibilities of Planning Policy are broad and varied.  However, the section’s key objectives are to produce work which:

  • Manages the delivery of new homes and jobs to drive economic growth;
  • Identifies the key necessary infrastructure to ensure strong and connected neighbourhoods; and
  • Positively manage Erewash’s historic and natural environment to ensure the Borough’s assets are protected for future generations to enjoy.

The section also undertakes monitoring activities which allow the Borough Council to understanding the impact its land-use planning policies have on economic, social and environmental objectives.

We hope you find these pages of interest and always appreciate feedback from website users to help improve how we present information.  Should you wish to get in touch with the Planning Policy section you can do so by This email address is being protected from spambots.
