Community involvement continues to play an ever-increasingly important role in encouraging local residents, as well as professional stakeholders in the planning system, encouraging them to become involved in the production of planning documents for Erewash.

Consultation on the draft Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) ended on Monday 23 September 2019. We consulted on an initial the draft version of the SCI back in January 2019, therefore any responses we received during that round of consultation have been taken into consideration for in the production of this version of the Draft SCI. To see a summary table of the changes made to the document between the two stages, please access our list of changes PDF document.

View the draft SCI document.  The planning system requires a range of documents (including the Statement of Community Involvement) to ensure engagement with local communities is placed at the heart of planning.  The Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) sets out our approach to involving the local community in the preparation, alteration and review of all planning policy documents and planning applications that cover Erewash.

The SCI shows who, when and how local communities can become involved in what we are doing and what measures have been taken to ensure that interested individuals and groups are informed about the progression of various planning documents, as well as having the chance to comment on their content.  We have to accord with the provisions as set out in our adopted SCI when preparing LDF documents and also when processing and determining planning applications.

The first Erewash SCI was adopted in 2007, which was later updated in 2012. This is the second update of the SCI. We update the document to ensure that the methods and techniques of consultation and engagement remain ‘fit for purpose’ for the many individuals/groups and forums present in Erewash. Read the currently adopted version of the SCI.
