Bulky Waste Collections

How much does it cost?

The cost of a council bulky waste collection for up to five items is £33 and £7 for every additional item. The price for items containing foam is £24  for up to three items and £9 for every additional item.

You can now book a bulky waste collection online using your My Erewash account. Due to the changes in how councils must collect items that contain foam, you may receive two separate collections on the day that the collection is booked.

The council will collect:

  • A bed base.
  • A mattress. We are unable to take Super King size mattresses.
  • A wardrobe.
  • A dining room table.
  • Two dining room chairs - one item.
  • A settee. We can not take settees that have metal in them such as recliners.
  • A living room arm chair. We can not take chairs that have metal in them.
  • Carpet. Carpet and underlay for a room will be treated as two separate items.
  • Glass and mirrors. These items must be broken, wrapped in paper or cardboard and placed safely in a box.

The council will not collect:

  • Construction waste and materials such as wood, bricks, soil and sand.
  • General household waste.
  • Items arising from commercial and industrial enterprises, including materials arising from rental properties.
  • Items that would normally be collected as kerbside recycling such as cardboard, paper, plastic bottles, tins or glass bottles.
  • Gardening waste suitable for the brown bin.
  • Landscaping materials.
  • Very large or heavy items such as oil tanks, cars and motorcycles.
  • Items that are dangerous or unsafe by design or condition.
  • Items that require specialist disposal.
  • Weapons and firearms.
  • Hazardous or biological waste or materials for which specific licences are required for disposal.
Items should be left at the front of the property. Refunds will not be given if we attend a property to collect bulky items or white goods and the items are not presented or they have been removed by a third party. Presented items that we cannot take will be left and no refund made:

When will my collection take place?

With effect from the week commencing 17 July 2023, collections for items that include foam, such as chairs and sofas will be made on a Tuesday.

All other items, including mattresses and household furniture such as wardrobes and tables will take place on a Wednesday.

White goods and metal items will continue to be collected by a separate collection, also on a Wednesday.

Demand for the service means that we cannot guarantee that items will be collected on the first collection day after booking. Please note that items for collection should be presented at the front of the property, as close to the pavement as possible.

Items should be out the night before collection, or before 6.30am on the day of collection.

White Goods

A white goods collection is £24 for up to three items and £9 for every additional item. These include:

  • Domestic fridge/freezer. We are unable to take American style fridge/freezers.
  • Cooker
  • Washing machine
  • Tumble drier
  • Washer/drier
  • Ovens
  • Hobs

  • Some metal items, such as Z-beds. Ask the contact centre staff for more information about these items.

Electrical items, such as large American style fridge/freezers can be disposed of at the Derbyshire County Council Recycling Centre on Manners Industrial Estate, Ilkeston. Waste which does not conform with European Waste Codes will be rejected. This includes dismantled white goods.

Small electrical items can sometimes be taken for free. In addition a carrier bag of small electrical items such as hairdryers, toasters, kettles, irons etc can also be placed out at the same time as your white goods and this will be collected free of charge. Small electrical items presented in this way do not count towards your three items of white goods.
