Flyposting

Fly-posting is the illegal display of advertising material and is often found strapped to lamp posts or pasted on buildings and street furniture. This makes the local neighbourhood look untidy.

There are three types of fly-posting:

• Photocopied adverts for local events such as car boots

• Large colour posters advertising record releases and concert dates for musicians

• Posters displayed by political organisations or pressure groups.

Incidents of fly-posting are investigated by our Neighbourhood Wardens who can take enforcement action, including prosecution wherever possible. Removal of posters is undertaken by our street cleansing team.

• Where the fly-posting is located

• The type of fly-posting (Plastic boards, pasted posters)

• What is being advertised

• A description of the individual observed erecting the fly-posting

• The details of any vehicles used

• The time the fly-posting was erected

• If the incident was witnessed by anybody else and their details.

Fly-posting costs the country thousands of pounds a year to clean up. It not only looks unsightly but it can lead to the decline of an area.

Fly-posting can play a major role in making an area feel run down. In addition, this can lead to heavy littering, vandalism and more serious forms of crime.

Anybody witnessed by our Neighbourhood Wardens putting up fly-posting will be issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice of £100/£65.
