Erewash inspired exhibit

Erewash Museum’s Lally Gallery is bringing in the New Year with an exhibit inspired by the borough.

The exhibition is open from Tuesday 17 January until Saturday 28 January 2023. The displayed artwork has been produced by 12 students currently attending the Fine Art Foundation course at Nottingham College, who were inspired following a visit to the borough. The showcase includes a range of creative talent in a variety of mediums including photography, paintings, sculpture and printing.

Leader of Erewash Borough Council, Councillor Carol Hart, said:

“It is always fantastic to see young talent on display and the latest museum exhibition is set to showcase even more budding artists. I am looking forward to seeing the artwork inspired by our beautiful borough and I’m sure many of our residents will pay a visit to the museum to view the exhibition. It’s certainly a great start to 2023.”

Erewash Museum is located a short walk from Ilkeston’s Market Place. The volunteer-led tea room offers drinks, lunches and sweet treats. Admission is free for both the house and gardens. Show up and Shine - February 11

Residents are invited to ‘show up and shine’ at this year’s spectacular Erewash Festival of Light event.

On Saturday 11 February the streets will be illuminated as people parade through the town centre with lanterns, including those made at creative workshops held at Erewash Museum.

Anyone attending can gather in the museum car park ready for the procession to begin at 6.15pm. The procession will see people walk with their lanterns to Ilkeston Market Place, accompanied by street performance artist Angie Mack who provides high energy shows for stage and street. People can expect to be dazzled by a short light display of shining dancing hoops. Angie will be offering free hula hoop workshops in the museum car park between 3.30pm to 4pm and 4.30pm to 5pm. Hoops are free to anyone attending.

The creative workshops will be held at locations including the museum’s Hayloft and Shop Mobility (located next to the museum). There is a £2.50 one-off fee for all the workshops with tickets available for purchase on the day or in advance at Erewash Museum in Ilkeston.
People are also welcome to bring their own creative lanterns to the parade (no glass/flames). Those in need of some guidance can follow a video tutorial from local business Spiral Arts. Templates will be available to collect from the museum from Tuesday 17 January.

The first 200 people to bring their lantern to the museum on Saturday 11 February will receive a free finger light.

Leader of Erewash Borough Council, Councillor Carol Hart, said:

“The Erewash Light Night is a great chance for residents and visitors to get together and spread some joy. It is a wonderful opportunity for families to get creative with an extensive list of workshops available. I look forward to seeing the sky come alive with everyone’s shining creations.”

Check the Erewash Museum Facebook page for more details as they become available.
