A huge army of volunteers will be descending on Erewash’s much-loved museum just like on telly’s DIY SOS Big Build – after it entered a major contest to win the boost and came top in a public vote.

An Erewash hero who took to the skies in one of the loneliest and most perilous roles of World War Two is being saluted at the borough’s museum.

A resident who feared being made homeless after she spiralled into debt has praised help from Erewash council as a godsend – saying: “A massive weight has been lifted off my shoulders.”
