Millions will be spent by construction industry supplier Fassa Bortolo – which specialises in pre-mix renders and plasters – as it builds a hi-tech factory near Ilkeston at New Stanton Park.

The family-owned firm, which has its HQ in Treviso, is investing £350million as it expands around the world. Its president Bortolo Fassa said as he pledged to recruit talented local workers: “We are extremely pleased to announce our new headquarters in the East Midlands.”

The state-of-the-art production facilities will cover 170,000sq ft including offices and a training academy under a planning application which Erewash council expects to receive shortly.

The latest investment comes as New Stanton Park continues to take shape on 220 acres of the old Stanton Ironworks.

David Ward, whose company Verdant Regeneration is behind the new business park, said: “Fassa Bortolo is an historic name in the construction materials industry.”

The company traces its origins back to 1710 when a family ancestor began working with lime.

East Midlands Mayor Claire Ward joined Erewash Borough Council leader James Dawson in welcoming the new factory. Cllr Dawson said: “It is our goal to help secure more investment and jobs.”

Erewash MP Adam Thompson hailed it as “a massive vote of confidence in our local economy”.

He said: “It’s proper industry, and good local manufacturing jobs, being brought home to Ilkeston – I’m incredibly excited.”
