Every year the council must carry out the annual canvass to update the Electoral Register to ensure it is complete and accurate.
Please read your letter carefully in order to determine whether there is a requirement for you to respond.
The annual canvass has changed to make it simpler for residents.
Although every property will still receive a letter at the start of the canvass, the reformed canvass requires all Electoral Registration Officers to match data they hold against National Government Data.
They are given the option to data match against other local data sources (such as council tax and benefit records). The results of the data matching step determines the type of canvass letter each property receives.
Avoid sending responses back to us in the post. Use one of the automated household response methods instead. All the details on how to do this are included on the front of the letter.
If you receive a CCA communication letter there is no requirement to respond unless there is a change to make to your details.
If you receive a Canvass Form communication letter there is a requirement to respond. These letters are not registration forms.
The information provided to us in response to these letters will enable us to send a separate registration form to all the people in your household who are eligible and need to register, or they can register online
