Have you ever visited Ilkeston when the Fair is on?
Have you ever marvelled at the sounds, lights and smells of the fair?
Well, this year, the Mayor of Erewash, Cllr Harry Atkinson is asking children from across the Borough (aged 5-11) to help him design a new printed cover for his official Charter Fair Programme.
Children can create their design on A4 paper in crayon, paint, felt tip or collage and are asked to write their full details on the back (please see link to rules).
Remember why you visit a fair and try and show this in your design:
- The fun of the Fair
- The history of the Fair
- Magical sounds
- Thrilling rides
- Family involvement and most importantly children having fun!
The winner, as well as seeing their design in print, will also have the honour of an invite to the official opening of the Charter Fair on Thursday 16th October and will be asked to ring the bells with the Mayor and other Civic Dignitaries to mark the start of the 773rd Annual Charter Fair.
Photographs will be taken at the event and shared across social media.
“As Mayor of Erewash, I’d love to see young people get stuck into this brilliant competition. Designing the front cover of the Ilkeston Charter Fair programme is a great way to show off your creativity and be part of one of Ilkeston’s proudest traditions.”
Entrants should submit their design by Monday 15 September 2025 for a chance to win. They will need to post their entry to Erewash Borough Council, Civic Office, Town Hall, Ilkeston, Derbyshire, DE7 5RP or you can also drop off your design in person at either of the Borough’s Town Halls (there are post boxes outside for use out of hours).
