Planning applications are assessed against adopted planning policies.
Policies are monitored to check that they are working as expected.
Where policies are not working or are out of date, new policies are proposed to supplement or replace them.

Proposals Map
The Proposals Map is a map of Erewash that shows where particular planning policies apply, such as allocations of land for development. This can be accessed through the Borough Council's interactive mapping system.
The policy layers will need to be loaded manually via the following method:
Click on the "My Maps" tab.
Tick "Planning (Policy Data)" within the "Map Categories" table to view the relevant layers.
The 2014 Erewash Core Strategy includes strategic planning policies on major topics. These were developed in partnership with Broxtowe, Gedling, Nottingham and Rushcliffe councils in Nottinghamshire, who also have the same policies.
Some of the policies of the 2005 Local Plan have been saved and are still in use. These are detailed policies that provide criteria for specific types of development.
Neighbourhood Plans are produced by Neighbourhood Planning Bodies, which are normally Parish Councils, for specific localities in Erewash. They include detailed policies specific to their geographical area.
Supplementary Planning Documents (SPD) provide useful interpretation of the Core Strategy and Saved Local Plan policies. They are used alongside those planning policies when assessing planning applications.
