Anti-Social Behaviour

Everyone has the right to enjoy life in their own way as long as they don’t upset people living near them.  Anti-social behaviour (ASB) can have an impact on people's quality of life and there are a number of agencies committed to tackling anti-social behaviour, through Erewash Community Safety Partnership.

Anti-social behaviour is defined by the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 as 'acting in a manner that caused, or was likely to cause, harassment, alarm or distress to any persons.'

This may include:

• rowdy behaviour

• nuisance neighbours

• noise nuisance

• intimidation / harassment

• criminal damage, vandalism and graffiti

• hate behaviour that targets people because of their perceived differences

This is by no means an exhaustive list. The important factors in determining ‘what is’ and ‘what is not’ anti-social behaviour are the level of seriousness and frequency of the behaviour. There is a balance between tolerating behaviour that we personally may not agree with and ensuring that we tackle behaviour that is anti-social.

If the problem is not too serious, try talking to the person. They may not realise they are causing a nuisance. Be calm and friendly, explain what the problem is and how it affects you. Listen to the other person and try to reach an agreement. If the discussion is getting unreasonable, leave and report anti-social behaviour using our contact us form.

 

Derbyshire ASB Hub

As part of National Anti-Social Behaviour Awareness Week, Derbyshire Police and Derbyshire County Council have launched the Derbyshire Anti-Social Behaviour Hub, which is an online resource providing information about:-

• What is and what is not anti-social behaviour
• How to report anti-social behaviour
• What action can be taken
• Support that is available for victims
• Information about how Derbyshire organisations work together to tackle anti-social behaviour
• Links to additional information on other websites
  
  

By working together, partners across Derbyshire aims to help make communities even safer by raising awareness of anti-social behaviour and providing help and support to people who are affected by it.

 

How do we tackle anti-social behaviour in Erewash?

We work on an evidence basis so to act against those causing problems we need to have evidence of their behaviour.  We do this primarily through logging incidents that happen in specific ASB diaries. We reply on residents to provide this information in the majority of cases. 

Once we have evidence of the concerns, we work with our partners to target the anti-social behaviour which is causing most harm to our communities.  We do this by analysing the reports you make to us and our partners, and the diaries completed which allows us to direct our resources most effectively.

Concerns about individual officers, or services, should continue to be directed to the relevant organisation’s complaints procedure and/or the Ombudsman or the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
