Ilkeston Cenotaph cleaned for centenary commemorations

The Mayor of Erewash lays a wreath at the Ilkeston Cenotaph at the 2013 Remembrance Sunday serviceErewash Borough Council is pleased to confirm that the Ilkeston Cenotaph and all our memorials and their plaques will be properly cleaned ahead of the First World War centenary commemorations.

The council can confirm that the proposed budget for 2014 includes the resources to ensure that the Cenotaph will be looking in the best possible condition for the 100 year anniversary of the outbreak of WWI in July.

Alongside residents, the council remains committed to preserving the history and heritage of this borough.

Ilkeston’s cenotaph is situated in the Market Place and is inscribed with the names of the individuals who died in both World Wars. It also forms the centre for the town’s annual Remembrance Sunday service.
