The ‘Love Your Town’ campaign has now been launched in Long Eaton as the drive to remove cigarette litter continues.
The campaign was launched on Wednesday 4 December, when campaign banners highlighted the appeal for smokers to dispose properly of their cigarette ends and raise awareness of the unacceptable amount of cigarette litter on our streets.
Councillor Geoffrey Smith, Lead Member for Regeneration and Planning, and members of the council's Operations team (pictured right) were at the stall to launch the campaign, while free cigarette butt pouches were also on offer to help smokers wanting to kick the habit.
Council sweeper vehicles were also out displaying the Love Your Town message – while a further 14 specially-designed cigarette butt bins around Long Eaton town centre are also set to be installed.
The free heat-proof butt pouches enable smokers to stub out their cigarettes and dispose of them safely in the nearest bin. The pouches are also available from Long Eaton Town Hall and via our Neighbourhood Wardens Service.
Dropping cigarette ends is a littering offence and if smokers are caught they face an on-the-spot find of £75.
