Council Tax scam warning

Erewash residents are again being warned to remain vigilant after Erewash Borough Council received information of a nationwide phishing email that is being circulated, which claims the recipient is eligible for a tax refund due to overpayment of Council Tax.

The Council were contacted in relation to the email [PDF 847KB], after it was sent to a number of local residents.

Please be assured that we will never send any unsolicited correspondence asking for any private/bank details and we would remind all residents to never, in any circumstances, give out personal or banking details by email or to anyone making an unsolicited call or visit to their home.

The Council have informed Trading Standards of the phishing email and the National Anti Fraud Network are also aware of the nationwide scam, which claims to come from This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

If residents are ever unsure if any letter or email they have received purporting to be from Erewash Borough Council is genuine, we would strongly advise them to contact us in the first instance.
