Management Plans and Character Appraisals

A management plan describes the proposals that the Borough Council has formulated for the preservation and enhancement of a Conservation Area. The Borough Council has adopted Management Plans for five of its Conservation Areas:

  • Ilkeston - management plan

  • Long Eaton 'Lace Factories' and 'Town Centre' - management plan

  • Sandiacre Lock management plan

  • Stanton-by-Dale - management plan

Character Appraisals

A character appraisal defines and records the special architectural and historic interest of the Conservation Area. It identifies those elements that make a positive contribution to the character and appearance of the area. It also identifies those elements that detract from the character and appearance of the area, which offer an opportunity for enhancement.

The Borough Council has adopted character appraisals for eleven of its Conservation Areas:
