Railway fans have the chance to see a steam hauled train stop at the new Ilkeston Station this Saturday (9 December) – the first to serve Ilkeston in more than 50 years.
The Mayor of Erewash, Councillor Mary Hopkinson, will be among train spotters expected at the station to welcome the charter train Steam Locomotive 5043 Earl of Mount Edgcumbe pull into Ilkeston at 11.02am.
It is the first charter to use the new station and it will also be the longest one so far. The steam train is a Christmas charter trip to York run by Vintage Trains.
