2020 Core Strategy Review
The Local Plan Consultation on Growth Options
The public consultation on proposals to develop housing on several sites in Erewash ran from Monday 27 January 2020 to Monday 20 July 2020. The public consultation is now closed. This webpage will provide further updates regarding the Core Strategy review in due course.
Erewash Borough Council are committed to the timely replacement of the 2014 Core Strategy. A meeting of the Borough Council’s Full Council on Thursday 23 January 2020 approved a 12-week consultation over the Growth Options document, the first stage of Local Plan review. This helps to identify the locations of sufficient land to deliver the housing requirements of the Borough, including a map of rejected and preferred sites. The consultation began on Monday 27 January.
Accompanying the Growth Options document, a comprehensive Sustainability Appraisal has been produced which supports the preferred hierarchy of options and which results in a balanced strategy of development around Erewash. In total, 17 strategic growth areas (SGA) have been identified as part of the spatial growth options. An assessment of each SGA has been produced and includes a wide-range of information, including mapping, for each of the 17 sites. The table below presents each site and shows which of the three separate PDF documents the assessment can be found within:

A key piece of evidence which informs all councils over the availability of land with potential to accommodate new housing in their areas is a Strategic Housing Land Availability Appraisal (SHLAA). Updating Erewash’s last SHLAA produced in 2014, work over the last two years has seen the Council publish a 2019 SHLAA. It has played an important role in the development of the Growth Options as it has provided the Council with information on the health of its five-year housing land supply. Completion of the 2019 SHLAA has enabled an update of Erewash’s five-year land supply (as at April 1 2019).
The Council’s most recently published Local Development Scheme sets out an ambitious programme for the production of a new Local Plan.
