Statement of Community Involvement

Community involvement continues to play an ever-increasingly important role in encouraging local residents, as well as professional stakeholders in the planning system, encouraging them to become involved in the production of planning documents for Erewash.

The current Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) was adopted in August 2019 after a period of extensive consultation.

The planning system requires a range of documents (including the SCI) to ensure engagement with local communities is placed at the heart of planning. The SCI sets out our approach to involving the local community in the preparation, alteration and review of all planning policy documents and planning applications that cover Erewash.

The SCI shows who, when and how local communities can become involved in what we are doing and what measures have been taken to ensure that interested individuals and groups are informed about the progression of various planning documents, as well as having the chance to comment on their content. We have to accord with the provisions as set out in our adopted SCI when preparing LDF documents and also when processing and determining planning applications.

It is important the SCI is subject to regular review. Planning legislation now requires the Council to review its SCI at least once every five years. This allows the Council to ensure that the methods and techniques of consultation and engagement remain ‘fit for purpose’ for the many individuals/groups and forums present in Erewash.
