The “holiday activity and food clubs” for youngsters across the borough are being held in Ilkeston and Sandiacre during August. They are for kids aged seven to 12 and include a “wide range of sports, games and fun activities”.
Children can tackle an inflatable obstacle course on selected days, plus there will be opportunities to use a “smoothie bike”, which is pedal power gizmo for making nutritious drinks.
The activities run from 10am to 2pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and kick off on 1 August at Ilkeston’s Rutland Sports Park Tennis Centre, where they will continue for a fortnight.
A fortnight of similar activities will begin at Sandiacre Friesland Sports Centre on Tuesday 22 August, ending on 1 September.
The initiative is thanks to the council successfully securing funding through the sports network StreetGames as part of the Department for Education’s holiday activities and food programme. Cllr Claire Marie Poole, Erewash’s Lead Member for Health and Wellbeing, said:
“We are encouraging children in the borough to be active during the holidays – and want to do all we can for those who qualify for free school meals.”
