Erewash Borough Council is following the national protocol for local authorities at this very sad time in order that residents may show their respects in the borough.

  • Condolence books will be open at Ilkeston and Long Eaton town halls until the day following the State Funeral. A book of condolence is also available on the Palace's website.

  • The Mayor of Erewash read the Proclamation outside Ilkeston Town Hall at 2pm on Sunday 11 September.

  • Flags at Ilkeston and Long Eaton town halls will fly at half-mast until after the funeral on Monday 19 September.

  • Floral tributes: For those residents who wish to lay floral tributes, these can be placed at the Cenotaph on the market place in Ilkeston and around the war memorial outside St Laurence’s Church on Long Eaton Market Place. In lieu of floral tributes, those wishing to pay tribute can donate to a charity of their choice, one suggestion being the Royal British Legion.

  • A Service of Remembrance will be held at St Mary’s Church, Ilkeston at 6pm and a at St Laurence’s Church, Long Eaton at 5pm on Sunday September 18, the evening prior to the State Funeral.
On the day following the funeral, all floral tributes will be sensitively removed and taken for composting. Flags will return to full mast and the condolence books closed.
