Street Party celebrations will be a royal highlight of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee festivities in June – and Erewash Borough Council has a grants hotpot to help local residents planning a knees-up over the Bank Holiday weekend.

Bunting, balloons and everything red, white and blue are expected to mark the Queen’s 70th landmark – which sees her honoured as the longest reigning monarch in British history during the extended bank holiday weekend from Thursday 2 to Sunday 5 June 2022.

The council is encouraging Erewash residents to celebrate safely together and has confirmed that groups and individuals can now bid for money to help fund traditional street parties in the borough.

Applications must be completed ahead of the 5pm deadline on Thursday 14 April. Please note that grant funding cannot be used for the purchase of alcohol.

Councillor Carol Hart, Leader of Erewash Borough Council, says:

“This will be a once-in-lifetime opportunity to celebrate an incredible 70-year reign of a British monarch. As a council we have been proud to honour so many jubilee landmarks for Queen Elizabeth and we are delighted to be able to offer, once again, the chance for our residents to apply for support for the platinum street parties which we know will take place in every corner of our borough.”

Her comments have been backed by Councillor Paul Maginnis, Lead Member for Health and Wellbeing:

“Street parties bring communities together and as the countdown begins to the big Platinum Bank Holiday Weekend, I would urge party planners to put in their bids for funding as soon as possible. It will be great to see our community celebrating this wonderful occasion.”

The council has also scrapped the usual road closure charges for any royal street party celebrations – although an application for a Road Closure Order must still be made by 5pm on April 22.

Apply using the The Street Party Grant Application Form. Please note that we have been inundated with applications and have limited funds available to award.
