Victoria Park in Ilkeston has a whole host of events coming up over the summer from musical delights and entertainment for youngsters, to learning all about bees. There’s no excuse to stay indoors when there is so much on right in the heart of the town. Plus, it’s all free.
The Dinnington Colliery Band will be performing at 6pm on Sunday 21 July for the finale of ‘Love Parks Week’, a nationwide celebration of our country’s fantastic green spaces and the community groups that bring them to life.
Summer Sounds, the musical jewel in Erewash Borough Council’s crown, returns to the park on Sunday 28 July between 3-7pm delivering a variety of great music acts, stalls, rides, refreshments and entertainment for the whole family to enjoy.
A National Honey Bee Day event takes place on Saturday 17 August between 2-5pm. Visitors can drum up support for the plight of pollinators with a drumming workshop on the bandstand and learn how to encourage wildlife into gardens and local communities. There’s also the chance to make mini bug hotels in the pavilion building for the park’s big bug house which will be next to the wildflower meadow.
A relaxing classical music evening on Sunday 25 August will see a harpist and pianist playing a variety of music on the Victorian bandstand. Limited seating available and the music plays between 6-8pm.
On Sunday 8 September, visitors can enjoy listening to music from the Salvation Army Brass Band between 2pm-3pm.
The fun continues with an afternoon teddy bears picnic on Saturday 21 September featuring a teddy bear hunt, games and entertainment on the bandstand and other free activities. The event takes place between 12-3pm and has been supported by local churches and community groups.
The Salvation Army Brass Band will be back to round up the summer season on Sunday 22 September at the bandstand between 2-3pm.

“What a fantastic line-up of events Victoria Park has to offer this summer. We are so lucky to have this beautiful Green Flag park in the centre of the town, whether you want a relaxing evening listening to the brass bands play or fancy a day out eating ice cream and dancing to the bands at Summer Sounds, there’s sure to be an event to suit everyone.”
