Erewash Borough Council will be highlighting the importance of water safety during Drowning Prevention Week which takes place 15-25 June.
The national campaign will encourage schools, clubs, leisure centres and communities to promote water safety education through events, games, activities and lessons.
Victoria Park Leisure Centre in Ilkeston and West Park Leisure Centre in Long Eaton will be running sessions with local school children on how to be safe and have fun near water.
Councillor Mike Wallis, Erewash Borough Council’s Lead Member for Culture and Leisure, says:
“It is extremely important that all our young people learn to swim and also to understand the dangers of open water, particularly as we approach the school summer holidays.”
The campaign is being run by created by the Royal Life Saving Society UK in partnership with the RNLI and Swim England.
