The Ilkeston Charter area is defined as any place within a 6⅔ mile radius of Ilkeston Market Place, meaning that it is not confined to the borders of the Borough. Erewash Borough Council possesses the sole and exclusive rights to hold markets within the area, and therefore any private operators wishing to hold an event must apply to us. This includes charities, non-commercial and commercial operators.
There is a flat £30 administration fee for the processing of applications.
Application Evaluation Process
If your application is approved, you shall be informed in writing, and sent a receipt for your payment. It is the operator’s responsibility to inform the police of any potential issues arising from the event, such as increased traffic congestion etc.
If your application is not approved, you will also be informed in writing, and your cheque returned to you.
It is in the public interest that the authority must process your application before it can be granted, therefore tacit consent does not apply. All applications should be processed within 28 calendar days. If you have not received a response in the given time period, please email the markets officer.
