Arts at the HeART of Wellbeing is a project which started in 2008 in partnership with Derbyshire Primary Care Trust. It has been funded jointly by Derbyshire Primary Care Trust and Erewash Borough Council.
The project offers older people including people living with dementia, arts based activities with a professional artist in a range of settings. This can be in a group, a residential home or independent living schemes or 1:1 sessions in their own home. The participants receive up to 8 weekly sessions learning new or re igniting old skills.
The Arts at The HeART groups have created art work by painting, felting, knitting with a peg loom, embroidery, pottery and many other mediums. The projects have all been successful in increasing the participant's wellbeing: their interest in other people, their social interaction and self confidence.
We continue to run the Arts at the HeART project which now includes training for artists and care staff . We are currently delivering the programme to people receiving care for dementia and their carers, in addition to people in housebound, supported and residential housing settings.
