Vandalised Bench, Long Eaton

Erewash Borough Council are appealing for help to catch arsonists who set fire to a bench on Collingwood Road, Long Eaton.

Comment from Dave Bramwell, Erewash Borough Council’s Head of Green Space and Street Scene:

“We share our resident’s anger and disappointment at this arson attack – it is mindless vandalism that has destroyed not only one of our Jubilee Benches but also a much valued community feature and a tribute to her majesty the Queen.

“The debris has now been removed and we hope to be able to replace the bench, which will be at a cost of between £600 and £800.

“It is important that the local community works with us and we would urge anyone with information to get in touch with the police on 101 quoting crime reference 17000359717.”

Erewash Borough Council celebrated the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee year in 2012 by installing 60 benches within the borough as a long-lasting commemoration of the historic occasion. Local residents and Parish Councils were asked to nominate sites for the 60 celebration benches. Locations including parks, cemeteries and play areas were all nominated and the sites selected were evenly allocated across the borough.
