Residents and visitors to the borough can now enjoy extra free parking when visiting Ilkeston and Long Eaton, due to extended free parking hours in Erewash Borough Council pay and display car parks.
The trial scheme will start on 27 August and continue until 31 December 2013, with free parking in all Erewash Borough Council pay and display car parks extended to 10am from the current hours of 6pm to 8am every day.
The scheme will also include free half hour parking bays in selected car parks between the hours of 10am and 6pm, Monday to Saturday. Parking bays will be allocated in each town centre car park and will be designated as free short stay parking, limited to a maximum of 30 minutes.
The free parking scheme is part of the Council's regeneration programme which has also seen the clearing and repair of gutters and the launch of the new grant scheme for shop owners.
Further initiatives are planned including town centre events, the installation of hanging baskets, themed markets, improving the appearance of empty shops and the launch of ‘Love your town’, a campaign to remove cigarette litter from the town centres.
Car parks included in the free half hour parking:
Ilkeston: East Street, Baker Street, Pimlico, Station Road, Wilton Place, Albion Centre, Club Row, Queen Street and South Street.
Long Eaton: Claye Street, Gibb Street, Beaconsfield Street, Lawrence Street, Town Hall lower, New Street and Waverley Street.
Note: The free parking scheme does not include Long Eaton Railway Station car park.
