...driving for success
We are responsible for managing and regulating new development throughout Erewash.
Its purpose is to ensure that land is used in the most efficient way, in order to encourage economic growth, while protecting Erewash's amenities and environment, both now and for the future.
The Planning Section manages the use of land, by drawing up the Local Development Framework, to identify where and how new building should be developed, and by making recommendations on applications for planning in accordance with the Local Plan, the Derby and Derbyshire Joint Structure Plan, the Regional Spatial Strategy and national planning guidance.
You may need to contact us for advice if you are thinking about applying for planning permission (required for most new development), if you want to comment on a planning application, if you are concerned that building is taking place without permission or generally, if you are interested in the future development of the borough. Guidance on how to make a planning application and the process for determination of applications can be found in the Guidance Note.
We have adopted the Building For Life Standards as a material planning consideration in determining planning applications for 10 or more residential properties. We will use the standards as a design tool for assessing major proposals and they compliment our objectives of seeking high quality design in new development.
Applicants for planning permission for schemes of 10 or more dwellings will be expected to include an assessment of how their proposals meet these standards as part of their Design and Access Statements submitted with their application.
Should you have any queries about development within the Borough, or how and when to apply for planning permission, please do not hesitate to contact one of our officers.
You are encouraged to submit your planning application form and plans online through the Planning Portal.
The fee calculator on the Planning Portal does not take joint applications into account - please ensure you submit the correct fee.
Alternatively, the forms are available to download.
