Success for West Park
Champion staff at Long Eaton’s West Park Leisure Centre can proudly say that things are going swimmingly . . . after the centre scooped a top ten place in a nationwide lifeguard competition held in Manchester recently.
The National Lifeguard Triathlon is an annual event organised by the Institute of Sport and Recreation Management and aims to promote excellence in lifeguard skills.
The intensive test saw West Park attain a highly commendable 9th place in a competition which attracted entries from leisure centres across the UK.
The competition features three sections - swimming, which involves a timed swim to rescue a casualty, a 30 question theory paper and a Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) test.
And the success for West Park continued when Leisure Centre gym instructor Anthony Blackler (24), pictured, gained 27th place in the individual category out of more than 550 entrants – achieving top marks in the CPR test.
