Protect Your Property – Visit a Flood Fair!
Special ‘Flood Fairs’ are to be held across Erewash to give residents the chance to find out more about how to protect homes in the face of severe weather.
The five Community Flood Fairs will give residents vital information and advice on flood defence in the light of the last two summers, when heavy rain caused flood problems in parts of the borough – and serious havoc in other areas of the country.
Now Erewash Borough Council has teamed up with Derbyshire County Council and the Environment Agency to stage the FREE early-evening sessions.
Visitors will be able to find out what has been done since last year’s floods, find out if their property is at risk of flooding and discover more about flood warden schemes.
Information will also be on offer about how to sign up to early flood warnings and get information about a range of flood defence products – while there will also be some free sandbags available.
The Flood Fairs are free to anyone to go along and will all be held between 6pm and 8pm: • Tuesday 7th October at Ilkeston Arena • Thursday 9th October at Long Eaton School • Monday 13th October at the OAP Hall, Barley Close, Little Eaton • Wednesday 15th October at the Parish Rooms, Elvaston Street, Draycott • Tuesday 4th November at the Community Centre, Draycott Road, Sawley.
Councillor Robert Parkinson, Erewash Borough Council’s Lead Member for the Environment, said: “I would urge anyone who has concerns about possible flood problems to go along to one of these fairs.
“We are pleased to have worked in partnership with the county council and the Environment Agency to be able to stage these events and to ensure everyone in Erewash has the opportunity to find out what help is on offer and what they can do to protect their homes.
“With last year’s bad weather being followed by the heavy rain we have experienced this summer, we though it important to provide information for residents.”
