Plans For A Brighter Erewash

Plans for a Brighter Erewash

Summer may be in full swing, but Erewash residents can already look forward to a brighter Christmas in the borough – with a double festive bonus planned for the shopping hotspots.

Plans for additional funding to be made available to improve the Christmas lights in Long
Eaton and Ilkeston – as well as in the parishes – will go before Erewash Borough Council’s next Executive meeting on 23rd July.

The meeting will ask councillors to rubber stamp detailed proposals to release more funds for the lights, offering local shops and businesses the opportunity to receive grant funding for new lighting displays.

Also on the agenda will be plans to offer free car parking for shoppers in Ilkeston and Long Eaton town centres in the week leading up to Christmas.

Councillor Chris Corbett, Leader of Erewash Borough Council, said: “We want to do all we can to help make it a bumper Christmas for all of us and I’m sure traders and residents alike will welcome these two measures.

“It is important we all work together as we continue our drive to encourage more people to do their shopping in Ilkeston and Long Eaton - let’s support our borough and help ensure our town centres thrive.

“I am delighted at the plans to offer more funding to brighten up the festive displays and at the proposal to offer free parking in the town centres.”

Erewash Borough Council’s Executive Council meeting will be held at Ilkeston Town Hall at 10.30am on Wednesday 23rd July.
