Let's Salute Our Sporting Stars
The search is on for our sporting stars as this year’s Erewash Sports Awards get underway, giving us all a chance to salute the best of the borough.
Juniors, sportsmen and women, disabled sports enthusiasts and veteran participants as well as clubs and coaches are all urged to nominate themselves and others for achievements over the last year.
The annual Awards are hosted by the Erewash Community Sport Network in partnership with Erewash Borough Council and others and aim to raise the profile of sport at all levels across Erewash.
Nominations can be received from any individuals involved in schools or sports organisations within the borough and self nominations are also accepted. The closing date is 22nd August 2008.
The nomination categories are:
• Junior Sportsman of the Year
• Junior Sportswomen of the Year
• Junior Disabled Sportsperson of the Year
• Sportsperson of the Year
• Disabled Sportsperson of the Year
• Veteran Sportsperson of the Year
• Team of the Year
• Junior Team of the Year
• Club of the Year
• Performance Coach of the Year
• Community Coach of the Year
• Young Sports Leader/Young Coach of the Year
• Service to Sport Award
• Contribution to School Sport
• Unsung Hero
All winners will be presented with their honours at an Erewash Sports Awards ceremony in September this year and will then go through to represent the borough at the countywide Derbyshire Sports Awards in November.
Councillor Mike Wallis, Lead Member for Culture and Leisure Services, said: “We are once again delighted to launch the annual Erewash Sports Awards, which are an excellent way of honouring the wonderful achievements of our sporting clubs and individuals.
“The quality of sports people and clubs in Erewash is very high and I would urge everyone, whether they are involved in sport or not, to nominate those individuals or clubs they feel deserve credit.”

Completed nomination forms should be returned to back to Sport Development, Erewash Borough Council, Long Eaton Town Hall, Derby Road, Long Eaton, NG10 1HU.
