Help Celebrate A Hat Trick of Harvest Moons!

Help Celebrate A Hat Trick of Harvest Moons!

Preparations and plans are now underway for the Harvest Moon Festival, Kirk Hallam’s annual free autumn extravaganza for all the family, which will take place on Saturday 20th September.

Organisers want local residents to put the date of this year’s one-day spectacular firmly in their diaries and want more people to get involved to ensure this third festival will be even bigger and better than ever.

Harvest Moon is a celebration of food, light and sound and takes place as close to the Autumn Equinox as possible – a landmark and special time in the calendar when food is harvested and gathered before winter time.

Now residents are being urged to get in touch and have their say on what types of activities they would like to see on offer at this year’s event.

In addition, anyone who has a few hours to spare can volunteer to help out with organising the event – while any local artists or those with a skill, like storytelling or being able to play a musical instrument for example, are also encouraged to take part.

At previous festivals, Kirk Hallam residents have been able to enjoy various workshops, including lantern making, tree decorations, photography, samba, food growing and cooking, as well as taking part in a whole host of fun activities at the main event.

One highlight of the festival is the early evening Lantern Procession featuring all lanterns made by local schoolchildren

Leading the organisation of the festival is Kirk Hallam Community Alliance along with Erewash Borough Council’s arts development and partnership development teams, Groundwork Derby and Derbyshire, and Derbyshire County Primary Care Trust.

Pam Dawson, Kirk Hallam Alliance Secretary, said: “We don’t expect people to give every waking hour to this festival; just one hour can be useful. If any individual or group would like to get involved or would like more information about the festival activities we would urge them to get in touch.”

Anyone wanting more information should telephone Pam Dawson 01159169474 or Nicola Hinton 01773 539 435 or log on to www.kirkhallamalliance.org.uk
