Budding Artists Showcase Their Talents

BUDDING ARTISTS SHOWCASE THEIR TALENTS

Wilsthorpe School pupil works on one piece for the art exhibitionFlourishing Long Eaton fine art students will showcase their work at a local gallery this week.

The exhibition, which runs opens on 15 July until 23 July at The Art Room, Long Eaton, features art inspired by their local community drawing on unusual perspectives, neglected places and the natural environment.

The five Wilsthorpe School sixth form pupils have been developing their talents for the last two months under the watchful eye of Erewash Borough Council-sponsored artist Polly Parker. Now the students are eager to show off their budding talent.

Polly was given a grant to work at a studio at Harrington Mill in Long Eaton under a scheme developed between the Council and Derby University. Part of her work is to enhance the profile of fine art in the community.

Councillor Mike Wallis, Lead Member for Culture and Leisure, said: “I hope as many people as possible will go along to see this exhibition – it is a great chance to see some marvellous work produced by just some of the many talented young artists we have in this borough.

“This is a superb example of the Council working in partnership with Derby University to give young people a wonderful opportunity to be creative, to work with a professional artist and to display their work.”
