New Chief Executive Takes the Reins

BRAND NEW CHIEF EXECUTIVE BEGINS ROLE

Erewash Borough Council's newly appointed Chief Executive, 54-year-old Jeremy Jaroszek, has this week taken the reins and begins his job of steering the Council forward.

Following an Extraordinary Meeting of the Full Council in July this year, the Council appointed Jeremy after two years of working with the Council heading up Financial Services.

He succeeds former Chief Executive John Rice who left in December 2005. The Council has been led by an Acting Chief Executive in the intervening 8 months. This role was first taken up by Shaun Field, Chief Executive of Bedford Borough Council, who was with the Council until March, when the acting role was undertaken by Director of Corporate Services, Ian Sankey.

Ian Sankey will now resume his role as Director of Corporate Services.

Councillor Robert Parkinson, Leader of Erewash Borough Council, said: “I am pleased that an appointment has been made, I really do believe we have our man and I look forward to working alongside him to drive this Council forward.

“It is important however to acknowledge the hard work put in by Ian Sankey over the past few months as he has worked tirelessly to help improve services and ensure the Council runs well during this interim period.”

Jeremy Jaroszek, lives with his wife and two children in Uxbridge, Middlesex. He does not make the commute every day, but has a base in Erewash in the week. His spare time is spent mainly on family pursuits but he also enjoys working on his garden, playing the piano and amateur astronomy.

Jeremy has worked in Director positions in local authority since the mid 1980’s, with positions including Strategic Director of Resources in the London Borough of Barnet, Strategic Director of Finance at Warwick District Council and Director of Financial Services at Bromsgrove District Council.

He is a member of the CIPFA (Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy) and the IRRV (Institute of Revenues Rating and Valuation). His qualifications include an MA from Cambridge University where he read Natural Sciences and an MSc in Management Sciences from Imperial College, London.

Jeremy said: “I look forward to working with members, directors and all officers at Erewash to help drive the Council forward.

“I am optimistic for the future of this Council, but I am of course aware that there is still a lot to do to get it back on track. I hope we can enhance our services to create a better Borough for those who live work and visit Erewash.”

The Chief Executive appointment was recommended by the Appointments Committee which was in charge of short-listing applicants and then making the final recommendation. The application process included stringent testing, interviews and an assessment day. Senior officers and members were involved in the whole process, which began in April. Jeremy was one of 30 applicants who put themselves forward for the role and became one of the six short-listed candidates. Final decision rested with the Full Council, who agreed to appoint.
