Erewash Festival Of Light: Chinese New Year

A week of Chinese New Year inspired events, including Chinese music, dragon dancing, and a procession.

Launch Event

Saturday 24 January, 11am-4pm
EREWASH MUSEUM

Open to all, a day of Chinese Lantern Making and music. Suitable for adults and children. Come along and for £1 make as many lanterns as you can. Enjoy the traditional Chinese music as you build your masterpiece. Look out for the Chinese Dragon. Then bring your lantern back and be part of the New Year celebration procession on 31 January.

Celebration Procession

Saturday 31 January, 11am-4pm
EREWASH MUSEUM & VENUE TBC, ILKESTON

5pm Procession leaves Erewash Museum

6pm Performance at Ilkeston venue TBC

A day of Chinese arts activities including lantern making, music, drama and dance. Finish the day by joining in the lantern lit procession from the museum through Ilkeston Marketplace to an Ilkeston venue TBC. Here local young people will be performing a dragon dance and retelling the story behind the Year of the Ox. Look out for the giant dragon, rat and ox!
