Public Register - Taxis

Section 42 of the Town Police Clauses Act 1847 sets out the requirements of the public register concerning hackney carriage drivers.

Section 51(3) of the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1976 specifies the requirements of the public register requirements for private hire drivers.

Also available to view are registers of Hackney Carriage Vehicles, Private Hire Vehicles and Private Hire Operators licensed by the Council.

As we receive and deal with a large number of licences, we are at present unable to update the web-based public registers on a daily basis. As such, while each web-based register will be updated on a regular basis, not all drivers currently licensed by us may appear on this website at any one time. It is important therefore that each register be read with caution and with the date of its last update in mind. For the same reason, the registers are not cumulative and show only the vehicles and drivers licensed at the time of its last update.

The Equality Act 2010 has placed certain duties on the drivers of designated wheelchair accessible taxis and private hire vehicles if the Council maintains a list of 'designated vehicles'. If the information you require does not appear in the register, please contact the licensing to ascertain whether the information you require is available. Alternatively, a hard copy of the public register can be viewed at the Council offices on request.
