The highly anticipated refurbished changing rooms at West Park Leisure Centre are now fully open! The flumes will also be operational during evening casual swimming sessions through the week and again during casual swimming sessions at the weekend. The changing rooms have been refurbished to include under floor warming, individual changing and shower cubicle and improved disabled facilities and access.
Erewash Borough Council announced the major refurbishment project for the pool changing facilities earlier this year after successfully winning a £414,000 cash windfall from Sport England. The project has been given a £101,000 ‘top-up’ by the Council to bring the total investment to £557,000. The makeover is the latest investment by the Council to maintain and boost facilities for West Park’s customers and will mean the centre has seen over £1m of improvements over the last year.
The refurbishment will improve the experience for visitors to West Park and will greatly improve accessibility for disabled people, older people and families with young children. Erewash Borough Council was able to make a funding bid to Sport England for a pool improvement project after it signed up for the national Free Swimming Initiative for those aged 16 and under or 60 and over.
Champion staff at Long Eaton’s West Park Leisure Centre can proudly say that things are going swimmingly after staff took part in the National Lifeguard Triathlon. The annual event is organised by the Institute of Sport and Recreation Management and aims to promote excellence in lifeguard skills.
The intensive test saw Anthony Blackler from West Park finish an impressive 20th out of 728 entries from leisure centres across the UK - which puts him in the top 3% in the UK. The competition features three sections - swimming, which involves a timed swim to rescue a casualty, a 40 question theory paper and a Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) test.
And the success for West Park continued when Leisure Centre when Daniel Bacon gained 97th place; Richard Mallon and Andy Rhodes joint 126th place; and Emma Keaton 258th in the individual category.
