We held our 2nd annual private sector housing landlords’ conference on the 22 April 2008 at the Novotel Hotel, Sandiacre. The conference, which is now an annual, free event, was launched to improve links between landlords and those council services which have an impact on private renting activities.
One of the main aims of the event was to give an update on a whole range of current topics which may affect or benefit landlords in the coming year, including:
• Energy Performance Certificates
• Local Housing Allowance – new Housing Benefit Scheme
• Deposit Protection Legislation - Update
• Launch of East Midlands Landlord Accreditation Scheme
• Update on service delivery.
35 delegates attended the 2nd Annual Landlords’ Conference and 23 of those delegates completed the Conference Evaluation questionnaire. When asked what they thought of the conference overall, 96 per cent of delegates indicated that the event was excellent or good.
Delegates were also asked for suggestions on what issues should be covered at future landlord events. Suggestions included:
• Housing Health and Safety Rating System
• Legal responsibilities in relation to Houses in Multiple Occupation
• Private rented leasing schemes
• Updates on any new legislation which may impact on private rented landlords.
