Housing options

The team will consider all your housing options and these can include:

Social housing

The new scheme for letting available homes in Erewash went live for the first time on Thursday 26 March 2009, enabling local people to ‘bid’ or 'express an interest' in vacant properties.

This scheme replaces the current way of accessing housing in the Borough.

New properties are advertised every two weeks.  The properties will be advertised on www.home-options.org (opens in a new window) and property sheets will also be available from the offices of Three Valleys Housing, Erewash Borough Council, Cotmanhay Enterprise Centre and local libraries.

Only applicants registered on the scheme can bid for properties.  Applicants can register online at www.home-options.org (opens in a new window) or in writing by contacting either Three Valleys Housing on 0844 770 3500 or the Council on 0845 907 2244 and asking for an application.

Once registered every applicant will receive a 'welcome pack' which explains how they can bid for a property.

If applicants see a property they like, they can register their bid on the home-options website, by text message, phone or using one of the coupons they received in their welcome pack. The deadline for bids to be received is displayed on the website.

Anyone who needs help or advice in bidding for a property should call either Three Valleys Housing on 0844 770 3500 or the Council on 0845 907 2244.

Supported housing

In Erewash we have a range of supported housing schemes that offer a vast range of services to young people, teenage parents, people with drug or alcohol issues and much more.

The staff at the projects offer support including practical help to access training, further education and employment.

Shared ownership

'EMHomeBuy' is run by East Midlands Housing Association in their role as a HomeBuy Agent. East Midlands Housing was awarded the HomeBuy Agent status which is sponsored by the Housing Corporation (a government body) and the CLG (Communities and Local Government), and this remains the same despite recent changes in the range of schemes offered.

EMHomebuy can provide you with help to purchase your own home in Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire (except Rutland) through government sponsored home ownership schemes. They will help you choose the most suitable one for you by providing information, advice and access to buying your first home.

If you think you may be eligible for this scheme contact East Midlands Housing Association and they will be able to advise.

The following schemes are on offer and are explained fully on the above website:

  • My Choice Homebuy with Metropolitan, offers equity loans between 15 per cent to 50 per cent to help social housing tenants, waiting list applicants, first time buyers and some key workers onto the property ladder. Interested applicants, if eligible, apply via EMHomebuy and have to complete one of our applications and be initially approved before being progressed to Metropolitan for further action.
  • Own Home with Places for People, offers equity loans between 20 per cent to 40 per cent to help social housing tenants, waiting list applicants, first time buyers and some key workers onto the property ladder. Interested applicants, if eligible, apply directly to Places for People and complete one of their applications.
