Nature Reserves

Our Local Nature Reserves were among some of the first local authority sites in the county.

We now have six sites with Local Nature Reserve status:

  • Forbes Hole, off Fields Farm Road, Long Eaton
  • Pioneer Meadows, off Wirksworth Road, Kirk Hallam
  • Stoney Clouds, off Church Street, Sandiacre
  • Fox Covert, West Park, Long Eaton
  • Trowell Marsh, Hallam Fields, Ilkeston
  • Stanton Gate, off Moorbridge Lane, Stanton by Dale

Each site contains and conserves particular features unique to the area. Leaflets describing each site are available from Ilkeston and Long Eaton Town Hall, local libraries and information points, alternatively contact us for the leaflets by email at walks@erewash.gov.uk or telephone 0845 9072244.

We welcome and encourage visitors to all our sites.

Groundwork Derby and Derbyshire co-ordinate regular working parties, walks and events at most sites to find out when the next event is taking place contact them by  telephone on 01773 535232 or email mfarrell@groundwork.org.uk or take a look at their website www.gdd.org.uk. (opens in a new window)

In addition to the formal Nature Reserves we have a host of other countryside sites offering tranquil havens away from everyday life:

  • Straws Bridge, High Lane, West Hallam
  • Trent Meadows, Meadow Lane, Long Eaton
  • Bennerley Woodland, off Bridge Street, Cotmanhay
  • Orchid Wood, Sawley Road, Church Wilne.
