MACCA (Mission: Active Children, Creative Adventure) is our programme of children's activities which take place during the Derbyshire school holidays. There is something for everyone with activities ranging from Erewash extreme skatepark and climbing wall to model making and trampolining! Please see below for further information

MACCA!

What?

Ideal for an hour or two of fun or a full action-packed day, MACCA offers a great range of activities at your local leisure centres, museum and elsewhere. The programme is available to all young people aged 5-14 years throughout the Derbyshire school holidays.

Run by our dedicated MACCA staff. there are plenty of fun activities to keep you occupied so there’s no excuse to get bored over the school holidays.

When?

The latest copy of our Summer 2010 MACCA programme is available to download here now. Or you can pick up a copy from any of our four leisure centres, Long Eaton or Ilkeston Town Hall or Erewash Museum.

Where?

Erewash Museum (opens in a new window)
The museum is open during the school holidays, Monday to Saturday from 10am till 4pm. The Museum is a must for all young people. What's more, all their MACCA activities are FREE!

West Park Leisure Centre (opens in a new window) WPLC runs a full programme of varied activities throughout the school holidays. It's the only centre that offers catering facilities (must be booked in advance) and the opportunity for your kids to spend the whole day under supervision. That's from 9.30am till 6pm

A full programme dedicated to maximum entertainment and fun.

Sandiacre Friesland Sports Centre (opens in a new window) Sandiacre Friesland Sports Centre runs an exciting and varied programme throughout the school holidays.

Victoria Park Leisure Centre (opens in a new window)
Victoria Park Leisure Centre will be running activities for children during all of the summer holidays. Fun and games in the water. No need to book, just turn up. Download the summer pool programme here.

Firfield Primary School
For children aged 5-7, Firfield Primary School runs MACCA every day from 9.15am – 3.15pm.
Activities include adventure games, treasure hunts, creative craft, puzzle time and much more. Children are supervised, including at lunch time (A packed lunch is essential).

What's on Summer 2010?

Erewash Museum

26th July to 31st July Archaeology Week - FREE - A fun packed week of activities to celebrate the National Festival of British Archaeology. Drop in activities will be held every day from 11am to 3pm. Try your hand at making your own mosaic tiles on Tuesday 27th and Thursday 29th July.

Saturday 31st July- Archaeology Fun Day 11am to 3pm - FREE - Have a go at our own archaeological dig down in the museum gardens, and get your finds identified by our own archaeology expert!

2nd August to 7th August Romans Week - FREE - Come along and take part in some fun Roman themed activities taking place throughout the week at the museum. Drop in activity sessions will be held every day from 11am to 3pm. We are also pleased to welcome Potted History to the museum on Tuesday 3rd August to do some special Roman Pottery workshops- Booking essential for the workshops please call 0115 9071141.

9th August to 14th August Magic Week - FREE - Magical fun and games will be on the cards during this fun packed week of activities. Fun activity drop in sessions will be held every day from 11am to 3pm. Come along to one of our special workshops on Tuesday 10th August to see some real magic demonstrated, you might even get the chance to have a go yourself! 16th August to 21st August Football Week - FREE - A fun packed week of football themed activities will take place at the museum in honour of our summer exhibition celebrating the history of Ilkeston Football Club. Ball skills workshops and other fun activities will take place throughout the week, please call for more information 0115 9071141.

23rd August to 28th August Explorer’s Week - FREE - An exciting week of adventures and activities at the museum as we celebrate Explorer’s Week. Fun drop in sessions will be held every
day from 11am to 3pm. Come along to one of our special workshops on Tuesday 24th August to learn some survival skills with a real intrepid explorer! Booking essential for explorer’s workshops, please call 0115 9071141.

30th August to 4th September Pirate Week - FREE - Come along and take part in some Pirate themed activities throughout the week. Make your own pirate hat in our pirate themed craft sessions and come along on Tuesday 31st August for our fun packed treasure hunt in the grounds of the museum. No need to book just drop in!

EREWASH EXTREME Mobile Climbing Wall - FREE - The mobile climbing wall will be visiting the museum this summer. It is currently the TALLEST mobile climbing wall available in the UK reaching a huge 9 metres (30 feet).
The climbing wall lets climbers of all abilities test their skills, it includes various sized rocks all over the climbing wall from top to bottom, overhangs, and for those to make it to the top of the wall they are able to abseil down the side if they dare!
