Hygiene Rating Scheme (scores on the doors)

We have introduced a Hygiene Rating Scheme for restaurants, takeaways, hotels, bed-and-breakfast, schools, cafes, staff canteens, care homes and some retailers.

The scheme aims to improve food safety and hygiene standards in these businesses by:

Providing customers with information on the inspections we conduct allowing them to make informed choices about where they eat
Encourage businesses to improve their standards of food hygiene and aim for the highest 5 star rating

***** - Excellent
**** - Very Good
*** - Good
** - Fair
* - Poor
None - Very poor - major improvement required.
