Erewash has a wide industrial base ranging from traditional manufacturing companies such as Charnos plc (lingerie and knitwear) and Stanton plc (ductile iron pipes and concrete products) to high-tech companies such as Pressac Ltd (automotive components).
Manufacturing accounts for 38 per cent of all employment and around a fifth of all businesses in Erewash (1991 Census). The engineering, furniture and garment manufacturing sectors are particularly strong.
There is a potential labour supply of 2.5m people within an hour's drive of the borough.
