...driving for success
The return of a direct passenger rail service and the building of a new railway station is a long standing aspiration of both Councils and is one of the key projects for the regeneration of Ilkeston and the wider Erewash area.
The provision of a passenger rail service in Ilkeston will help support business growth, create new jobs and remove barriers to local employment and training opportunities. The project will also enhance the attractiveness of the area for investment and will facilitate new sustainable economic growth.
Significant progress has been made on moving the project forward over the past few years. Derbyshire County Council is leading the development of proposals in partnership with the Borough Council, Nottinghamshire County Council and Broxtowe Borough Council.
£1 million of funding has already been successfully secured towards the project through Growth Point resources, but this funding is only available for a limited time. It is estimated that a new rail station will cost around £5-6 million in total and therefore other funding options are currently being considered.
Erewash Borough Council would like local businesses to pledge their support for a rail station in Ilkeston. General letters of support are welcome. However, what will be most beneficial are letters from businesses that can specifically state the economic benefits that the station will bring to their business. Letters highlighting that the rail station will bring business expansion, new contracts or create new jobs within Ilkeston will give significant more weight to the project.
Letters should be posted or emailed to Erewash Borough Council using the following contact details:
