Markets

Erewash provides for all your shopping needs with its two busy town centres at Ilkeston and Long Eaton which each have more than 200 shops in addition to thriving markets.

Both have the advantage of pedestrianisation which gives shoppers the opportunity to browse in a traffic free environment.

The town centres each boast a mix of high street retailers and locally run businesses.

At Ilkeston the range of shops is boosted with a department store and a variety of outlets in the covered Albion Centre precinct.

At the hub of this historical town is the market which can trace its history back to the original charter granted in 1252 by Henry II. Open on a Thursday, Friday and Saturday, it is situated at the top of town beneath the shadow of St Mary Church.

Long Eaton provides modern shopping in a sympathetically developed Victorian setting.

Nestling between the High Street and Tamworth Road is the town's traditional open-air market which provides a wide range of fresh and household goods and is open on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Flea markets are on Tuesday.

Bus services bring visitors straight to the town centres and drivers are also well catered for with reasonably priced car parks centrally located.

Shoppers can also feel safe in the two centres thanks to the Closed Circuit Television System which is controlled from the towns' police stations.

CCTV was jointly funded by local businesses, a Home Office grant and Erewash Borough Council and has been a great success in creating a crime-free shopping environment.

There are numerous cameras located around the towns including car parks.
