FAQs for Borough/Parish/AV Referendum

Q. What date will the Borough/Parish Elections and the Referendum on the AV Vote take place?

A. The Elections and Referendum will take place on Thursday 5 May 2011.

Q. What do I do if I am not included in the Register of Electors?

A. You will need to complete a voter registration form to include your details in the current Register of Electors.  Forms need to be returned to the Electoral Services Office by Thursday 14 April 2011 in time to be included to vote at the forthcoming election.

Q. What are the hours of poll?

A. The hours of Poll for the election & Referendum are 7am – 10pm. 

Q. Will I receive a Polling Card?

A. Poll cards and Postal Poll cards (for those with a Postal Vote) will be sent out between Friday 25 March and Sunday 10 April 2011. 

Q. How will I know where my Polling Station will be?

A. The Polling Station will be stated on the Poll Card.

Q. How will I find out who the Candidates are for my Ward?

A. Close of nominations is noon on Monday 4 April 2011. A Statement of Persons nominated will be published by noon on Wednesday 6 April 2011.

You can either view this at the Town Hall, Ilkeston or the Town Hall, Long Eaton.  It will also be published on the Council’s website.

Q. If I wish to vote by post, what do I need to do?

A. Firstly you may already be entitled to vote by post if you have completed a permanent postal vote application form in the past.  If not you need to complete a Postal Vote application form and return it to the Electoral Services Office by 5pm on Thursday 14 April 2011.

Q. When will the Postal Ballot Papers be sent out?

A. From Friday 15 April 2011.

Q. When do the Postal Ballot Papers have to be returned by?

A. All Postal Ballot papers need to be received by the Returning Officer by 10pm on the day of Poll (5 May 2011).

Q. Can I deliver my Postal Ballot to a Polling Station?

A. Yes you are entitled to deliver your Postal Ballot to any Polling Station within the Erewash Borough.

You can also deliver your Postal Vote direct to the Ilkeston Town Hall.  They must be received at the Town Hall by 10pm on Thursday 5 May 2011.

Q. If I make a mistake with my Postal Ballot, what do I do?

A. You will need to return the spoilt papers to the Elections Office by 5pm on 5 May 2011 and we will issue you with new papers.

Q. If I lose my Postal ballot, what do I do?

A. You will need to come in by 5pm on 5 May 2011 and be issued with a new set of Postal Ballot Papers.  You will need to provide ID.

Q. What if I want to appoint someone to vote on my behalf (a Proxy)?

A. You must complete a Proxy application form and return the form to the Electoral Services Office by 5pm on Thursday 21 April 2011. To vote by proxy for just one election, you must have a reason e.g. you will be on holiday.

Q. When will the Results of the Elections be announced?

A. The Count for the Borough Elections will be held at 10pm on Thursday 5 May 2011 at West Park Leisure Centre. The Parish votes will be counted on Friday morning and the Referendum votes will be counted at 4pm on Friday 6 May 2011.

All Results will be posted on the Councils website.
