M1 Widening - Traffic Restrictions

There will be major changes to traffic movement on the M1 as part of the widening scheme. These changes will potentially affect thousands of travellers per day.

From Sunday 27th January 2008, there will be a 50 MPH limit on the Southbound M1 from Junction 27 (Annesley) to Junction 26 (Nuthall). Traffic will be confined to three narrow lanes with no hard shoulder.

Similar restrictions will be imposed on the Northbound M1 between Junction 26 and Junction 27 from February 16, and will remain on both carriageways until autumn 2008.

Free Recovery

A free recovery service was introduced on January 23rd which covers both carriageways between Junction 25 (Sandiacre) to Junction 28 (Pinxton). The recovery service is controlled from 24 hour CCTV which is installed in 64 locations along both carriageways.

Traffic Information

The Highways Agency operates a Traffic Radio service, available on DAB digital radio and the internet at www.trafficradio.org.uk.

To tune into the DAB service, simply press the "scan" button on your radio. The radio will tune into all available channels and you can select the new service by scrolling through the channels until you reach "Traffic Radio".
