Child Protection

What is Child Protection

Child Protection means protecting children from abuse, which could be:-

  • Physical abuse;
  • Emotional abuse;
  • Sexual abuse;
  • Neglect.
Abuse happens to children of all ages, from any social background or ethnic group.  It usually involves a parent, another family member or someone else caring for the child, but it could be anyone.  Child abuse of any kind is very serious and action must be taken quickly.

What should I do if I think that a child is being abused?

If you think that a child is being abused you should contact your Local Social Services, NSPCC or the Police.  You do not have to give your name and everything you say will be treated seriously.

What if I am not sure whether a child is being abused or not?

You may not be certain that a child is being harmed but if there is something that worries you, don't ignore it.  It is better to be safe than sorry.  If it turns out that the child is fine you will not be in any trouble.
